Spanking Secretly Teaching You Emotional Intelligence!
Share
I know the phrase “spanking builds character” sounds like something a grandmother would say before emotionally ruining a child forever (sorry if that's triggering), but unfortunately there is something that feels weirdly developmental about consensual impact play.
I'm not saying “this will optimise your productivity” because I’m not about to tell you that getting spanked increases quarterly performance metrics. This isn't a boomer LinkedIn post.
But I am saying that kink (especially impact play) quietly demands a surprising number of emotional skills that people are very, very bad at in normal life.
Examples:
Communication.
Vulnerability.
Listening.
Asking for what you want without pretending you don’t want it. lol.
Because most of us are told to soften our desires until they become almost invisible. We might hint or imply, hoping people will magically interpret our body language correctly without us having to survive the unbearable vulnerability of direct honesty.
And then suddenly kink arrives and says:
okay, be daddy's good girl and use your words.
Terrifying!
Revolutionary!
Sexy!
You have to learn how to communicate clearly without making yourself small. You have to learn the difference between discomfort and actual harm. You have to notice you or your partners body in real time and become better at listening.
Good impact play requires attention. I am serious: real attention. Not passive listening while mentally editing your gym playlist for tomorrow. You have to notice shifts in breathing, body tension, energy, hesitation, enthusiasm. You learn how to read someone carefully, not just consume them.
Which is feeling like a lost art now?
Also, there is an element of people thinking that spanking is primarily about control... but most healthy kink dynamics are built on trust and responsiveness. The entire thing only works because both (or more? idk) people are actively paying attention to each other.
That’s a life skill!
Being able to stay emotionally present with another person (especially during intensity) is a life skill!
People who can comfortably say:
“I don’t like that.”
“Can we slow down?”
“Actually, I want more.”
are often emotionally healthier than people who spend their entire lives people pleasing their way around everyone else’s expectations.
I also think there’s something deeply healing about people tuning into each other in a time that constantly encourages numbness. I feel both emotionally under-stimulated and over-stimulated at the same time! I'm fucking exhausted!
So, spank me! Bring me back to my body! Give me sensation, anticipation, adrenaline, breath, emotion!
And maybe that’s part of why people love it so much. It feels like a forgotten art.
Even if those experiences occasionally involve a lacquered cherry-red paddle and a very loaded “behave.”
Anyway, hydrate after emotional experiences, mon chéries. ✷
