There’s a moment a lot of people have at some point while shopping online (@ 1:13am.)

You see a cute paddle, maybe it’s velvet, maybe it’s heart-shaped, it has an aggressive name like "Slapper" or "Brat Tamer" (actually that's kinda cute). And then your brain does that thing:

Wait… does this mean I’m into BDSM now????????????????

First things first: these 3 words are not the same thing

Did you know this? they feel interchangeable, but they’re not. Lol.

BDSM is an umbrella term. It includes a range of consensual practices and dynamics involving Bondage, Discipline, Dominance & Submission, and Sadism & Masochism etc, etc. It can be structured, negotiated, ongoing, deeply psychological, or very light and playful depending on the people involved.

Kink is broader and softer. It just means anything outside “vanilla” sex or intimacy preferences. That can be as intense or as mild as you want it to be. Power play? Kink. Roleplay? Kink. Blindfolds and a bit of teasing? Also kink. Or just curiosity? Still counts. Kink.

Fetish is more specific. It usually refers to a strong focus or reliance on a particular object, material, body part, or stimulus for arousal. It’s not just: “I like this.” It’s more like: “this is central to the experience for me.”

And just so you know:

None of these are personality tests, identity checkpoints, or club memberships you accidentally signed up for by buying something cute!

A paddle is not a declaration of identity

& buying a paddle does not mean you are “into BDSM” so you can frickin' chill out.

But it could mean:

• You like texture and sensation play
• You’re curious about experimenting
• You like aesthetic objects that also do something (can apply to anything? lol)
• You wanted something playful that makes an ordinary moment feel a little more charged
• You liked the design and clicked “add to cart” like a normal human being (good girl!)

One of the simplest truths that gets lost in all of this is that curiosity is not commitment.

The real point (if there is one)

Objects don’t assign you a category. A cute paddle doesn’t make you anything other than someone who bought a cute paddle.
